Batteries for electromobility - Testing requirements
All applications of electromobilty from “Hybrid Electric Vehicle” to “Plug-In Electric Vehicle” need battery systems which are fitting for automotive use. Batterysystems come in many variants. They are complex products able to perform a lot of different functions. Safety functions are executed by integrated electronic modules. These have to fulfil the re-quirements of ISO 26262. In Europe, traction-batteries have to comply with EU-Directive 2007/46/EG, 2004/104/EG for type approval and to the Product Safety Directive 2001/95/EG. Lithium-Batteries have to fulfil UN-transport re-quirements. Besides Performance-Parameters e. g. capacity and self-discharge, also lifetime, environmental simulation (e. g. EN 16750), safety, abuse and accident (US FreedomCAR) are tested. High electric currents and voltages must be handled safely, and the flow out of internal liquids, fire and explosion shall be prevented. Economy and time-to-market require an adaptive approach with a systematic concept for qualification. This concept integrates the definition of re-quirements for the battery-system and its modules, the risk-analysis, the validation plan and its implementation with supervision of the device under test, protection measures and factory inspection.
