Reliable testing of mechanical impact resistance for electrical equipment enclosures
Manufacturers of electrical and electronic products for special applications require particularly robust enclosures with increased mechanical resistance. Typical applications include harsh environments or public installations (e.g., outdoor kiosks, ticket machines, digital signage), or when a tender document or end customer requires a specific IK class. Our accredited test laboratory in Puchheim, near Munich, provides you with comprehensive IK protection class tests in accordance with IEC 62262 – the follow-up standard to EN 50102. We also take other requirements from the respective end product standards into account.
What is the IK degree of protection?
The IK protection class classifies the mechanical impact resistance of enclosures against external influences. In accordance with IEC 62262, the resistance is tested using defined impact energies that act on the enclosure using standardized test geometries.
| IK degree of protection | IK00 | IK01 | IK02 | IK03 | IK04 | IK05 | IK06 | IK07 | IK08 | IK09 | IK10 | IK11 |
| Impact energy (joule) | No impact resistance | 0.14 | 0.2 | 0.35 | 0.5 | 0.7 | 1 | 2 | 5 | 10 | 20 | 50 |
