IP-Testing according to ISO 20653 and IEC 60529

Testing the degree of protection of enclosures for electrical equipment

IP-Testing is a standardized test procedure defined by international standards for the quantitative and reproducible evaluation of the protective performance of enclosures for electrical equipment. Its objective is to provide verifiable evidence of resistance against the ingress of solid foreign objects, dust, and water under specified environmental test conditions.

Standardized testing methods ensure that products meet the required protection degrees and function safely in practical applications. IP testing is carried out in accordance with internationally recognized standards such as IEC 60529 and ISO 20653.

These standards define both the test procedures and the classification of protection degrees against the ingress of foreign objects and water.

Our testing infrastructure

At our Geretsried test lab, the following testing infrastructure is available for IP protection testing:

  • 2 dust chambers
    • Talcum (1.18 m³)
    • Arizona dust (4.4 m³)
  • 1 IP room (IPx3 to IPx9K)

At our laboratory in Puchheim, the testing scope is complemented by tests according to IPx1 and IPx2.

IP-Testing within conformity assessment

IP-Testing is an essential part of the conformity assessment of electrical equipment. It is often a prerequisite for CE marking, market approval and industry-specific certifications.

In addition, it plays a key role in risk mitigation and provides protection against:

  • electric shock
  • short circuit and insulation failure
  • corrosion
  • functional impairment due to particle ingress

Benefit from our expertise, state-of-the-art testing technology, and reliable results for your products.
