Functional Safety of Electronic Systems for Industry

The safety of machines, plants and systems employed in industry depends more than ever before on the correct functioning of electronic control systems. Malfunctioning of control systems can lead to dangerous situations, jeopardizing both capital investments and people. To eliminate such risks as far as possible, the relevant control systems must meet exacting requirements in terms of functional safety.

The primary focus of these requirements is the overall safety functionality. Based on the generic IEC 61508 standard, requirements for electrical and electronic control systems have been defined for specific application sectors. The advantage of this approach is that systems which meet this standard can be offered sector-wide and need only minor modifications to the safety-related functions. It is, of course, the application sector requirements that are of primary interest to suppliers, manufacturers and operators. Below are just a few of the examples for which we would be pleased to offer you our consulting services.
  • Safety of machines (IEC 62061 Functional safety of safety-related electrical, electronic and programmable electronic control systems)
  • Safety of machines (EN ISO 13849-1 Safety-related parts of control systems – Part 1: General principles for design, replacing DIN EN 954-1)
  • Safety systems for the process industry (IEC 61511-1)
  • Electrical equipment for furnaces (DIN EN 50156-1)
  • Communications, signaling and processing systems for railway applications (DIN EN 50128 Software and DIN EN 50159 Safety-related communications)
